Volunteer lifeboat crew from RNLI Courtown were tasked this afternoon (Sunday, 24 May) following reports of a person in difficulty after becoming separated from their Personal Water Craft off the Co Wexford coast.

The alarm was raised after a concerned member of the public contacted the Coast Guard when they spotted the individual some distance from shore in choppy sea conditions.
Although the casualty was wearing a buoyancy aid, the situation had the potential to become serious due to the prevailing conditions and distance from land.
Volunteer crew quickly assembled and began preparing the Courtown RNLI inshore lifeboat Frank for launch. However, before the lifeboat launched, the crew were stood down after another Personal Water Craft user came to the aid of the casualty and assisted them safely.
Speaking following the incident, Courtown RNLI lifeboat helm Robert Ierton praised the quick actions of the member of the public who raised the alarm and reiterated key safety advice for water users.
“Never hesitate to call 112 or 999 as soon as possible and ask for the Coast Guard if you think somebody is in trouble,” he said.
“Always ensure you have a means of communication and wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid.”
Following the stand down, the Courtown RNLI inshore lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for the next service call.
