The volunteer crew from RNLI Crosshaven responded to a late-night callout on Monday (20 April) after Valentia Coast Guard requested the lifeboat be placed on standby.

The request came at 7.30pm as a 13-metre yacht, travelling from Falmouth in the UK, experienced engine difficulties and required assistance to safely enter Cork Harbour and berth.
The Crosshaven lifeboat launched at 9.45pm with a volunteer crew of David Venner, Kline Pennefather, Michael Livingstone and Griff Kelleher onboard. They made their way to a position approximately eight nautical miles east-southeast of Roches Point, where they rendezvoused with the stricken vessel. A crew member was transferred onto the yacht to help manage the situation.
Once at Roches Point, the lifeboat crew established a tow and safely guided the vessel into Cork Harbour, where it was brought alongside at Crosshaven Boatyard without incident.
Following the operation, the lifeboat returned to station, where it was washed down, refuelled and declared ready for service again by 12.50am.
Supporting the operation ashore were crew members Conor Barry, Darryl Hughes and Michael McCann, while the launch authority was Hugh Tully.
In case of emergency call 112/999 or use VHF Channel 16 and ask for the Coast Guard.
