Howth RNLI volunteers launch twice in one day to assist people in difficulty

Howth RNLI’s volunteer crew launched the inshore lifeboat twice yesterday (Sunday) to assist people in difficulty along the north Dublin coastline.
The first call came shortly before 1.40pm following reports of an injured person at Red Rock in Sutton.
As Howth RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was making its way towards Sutton, the crew were diverted to a separate incident involving an injured person at Whitewater Brook, close to the Baily Lighthouse.
The casualty, who had sustained an ankle injury, was taken aboard the lifeboat and brought back to Howth Lifeboat Station, where they were handed into the care of a waiting ambulance.
Dún Laoghaire RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was tasked to the original incident at Red Rock. The volunteer crew took the injured person aboard and brought them to Sutton Dinghy Club, where they were also handed into the care of an ambulance.
Later that evening, shortly after 5.30pm, Howth RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was called out for a second time following reports of two people cut off by the tide at Portmarnock Beach.
The lifeboat crew located the two people, took them safely aboard and returned with them to Howth Lifeboat Station.
The two callouts are a timely reminder of how quickly conditions around the coastline can change.
Howth RNLI advises anyone heading out along the coast to always check the weather and tide times before setting off and to allow plenty of time to return safely.
