Youghal, Co. Cork - Volunteers from Youghal Coast Guard Unit were tasked yesterday evening following reports of a possible kayaker in difficulty off the local coastline.

The alert was raised at 19:01 after Gardaí contacted the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) regarding a report of a kayaker overboard. A member of the public on board a vessel had spotted an overturned kayak in the water and, concerned that someone may have fallen from it, immediately raised the alarm.
Upon arrival at the scene, the Coast Guard Officer in Charge spoke with the reporting party and coordinated a search operation to determine whether anyone was missing or in danger.
During the course of the search, it was established that the owners of the kayak were safely ashore and that the unmanned craft had been washed out to sea. The vessel that initially reported the incident successfully recovered the kayak and returned it safely to land.
The incident concluded with a positive outcome and highlights the importance of members of the public acting quickly when they suspect someone may be in difficulty on the water.
Youghal Coast Guard praised the boat owner for their vigilance and prompt actions in raising the alarm, noting that it serves as an excellent example of how early reporting can assist emergency services and potentially save lives.
The Coast Guard is reminding the public that if they see anyone in difficulty around the coast or on the water, they should immediately call 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard.
Irish Coast Guard volunteers continue to provide a vital search and rescue service along Ireland's coastline, responding to incidents and helping to keep coastal communities safe.
