On Monday evening, 4 May, the Killaloe Coast Guard unit responded promptly to a call for assistance involving a drifting powerboat on Lough Derg.

At approximately 5:40pm, the unit was tasked to aid a vessel carrying five people that had lost power and was drifting around 1 kilometre north of Killaloe. In response, a boat crew launched from Pier Head and began a search of the surrounding waters.
The casualty vessel was subsequently located in the Ballyvally area, south of Two Mile Gate along the Clare shoreline. Upon arrival, Coast Guard personnel confirmed that all on board were safe, accounted for, and wearing life jackets.
A tow line was carefully established, and the stricken powerboat was safely towed back towards Killaloe. Meanwhile, a shore team coordinated the return, assisting with the secure mooring of the vessel upon arrival.
The operation concluded without incident, and by 6:45pm the Killaloe Coast Guard crew had stood down and returned to base.
In an emergency, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
