The volunteer lifeboat crew at Howth RNLI were launched twice at night last week to separate incidents off the coast.

At 10:48pm on Thursday (18 September), Howth RNLI volunteers launched both the all-weather lifeboat and inshore lifeboat to assist two fishing vessels in difficulty at the entrance to Howth Harbour. One vessel was towing another when both encountered problems.
Two crew members from the ILB were put aboard the fishing boat being towed and the lifeboat assisted the other fishing boat to complete the tow safely to the harbour wall.
At 10:22pm on Saturday (20 september), a medical emergency was declared on board a cruise ship around 15 miles northeast of Howth.
Howth RNLI launched their all-weather lifeboat with seven crew into rough seas and strong Force 8 northerly winds, plotting a 50-minute passage to the ship.
Rescue 116, the Coast Guard helicopter, arrived on scene and successfully winched the casualty from the vessel. The lifeboat was stood down and returned to station after midnight, washed down, refuelled, and made ready for the next call.
