The Blessington Rescue Boat (BRB) organisation is calling for volunteers aged over 18 to join its growing team, highlighting the importance of community-based maritime safety on inland waterways. The group says no previous experience is necessary, with full training provided for all successful recruits.

Operating on the Blessington Lakes, the volunteer service plays a key role in water safety, assisting with emergencies, search and rescue operations, and supporting local lake users throughout the year.

In its latest campaign, BRB says it is seeking “dedicated volunteers” and “team players” who are willing to commit to training and help protect the local community. Opportunities are available for both boat crew and shore crew roles.

The organisation has emphasised that enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to learn are the only requirements, describing the initiative as an opportunity for “ordinary people” to take on an “extraordinary purpose.”

As recreational boating and water-based activities continue to grow across Ireland’s inland waterways, volunteer rescue groups remain a vital part of the maritime safety network, often providing rapid local response capabilities in emergencies.

Blessington Rescue Boat says new members will gain valuable life skills while making a meaningful contribution to community safety.

People interested in joining BRB can contact the organisation by phone on 087 716 2209 or by email at blessingtonrescueboat@gmail.com. Prospective volunteers can also follow and contact the group through its Facebook page, “Blessington Rescue Boat,” for more information about training and upcoming recruitment opportunities.
