WATERFORD CITY, Co Waterford - Waterford City River Rescue crews were tasked on Wednesday afternoon ( 3 June) to assist a yacht that had encountered difficulties on the River Suir.

The incident was coordinated by the Irish Coast Guard, which requested the deployment of Waterford City River Rescue's Community Rescue Boat Ireland (CRBI) crews to the vessel. Upon arrival, rescue personnel assessed the situation and placed the yacht under tow before safely escorting it to Waterford Marina.
The operation was completed without incident, with the vessel and those on board brought safely ashore.
Waterford City River Rescue thanked all agencies involved in the response, particularly the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) for its role in coordinating the rescue effort.
Following the callout, the rescue organisation renewed its appeal for members of the public to contact emergency services immediately if they witness an incident on the water.
The organisation stressed that early notification is critical in ensuring the appropriate emergency resources can be deployed as quickly as possible, helping to improve outcomes for those in difficulty.
Anyone who sees a person, vessel or water user in distress on Ireland's rivers, lakes or coastline is urged to dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard. The Coast Guard will then coordinate and dispatch the necessary rescue services to the scene.
Waterford City River Rescue also reminded the public never to assume that another person has already raised the alarm, as prompt reporting can be vital during water-related emergencies.
