Monday 26 October 2026
DROGHEDA COAST GUARD was mobilised on Monday afternoon, 26 October, following an emergency call reporting that a person had entered the River Boyne from the Bridge of Peace in Drogheda.

The unit’s pagers were activated by the National Maritime Operations Centre (NMOC) following a 999/112 call from a member of the public who witnessed the incident.
Drogheda Coast Guard volunteers responded immediately to the alert, with the unit tasked to launch its D-Class inshore rescue boat. As crew members arrived at the station, preparations were made to launch the boat from the station slipway, while a land-based search and rescue team was also deployed to the reported location.
On arrival at the scene, Coast Guard personnel established that the casualty had already been recovered from the water and was receiving assistance from National Ambulance Service (NAS) paramedics.
Ambulance personnel were arranging the casualty’s transfer to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for further medical assessment and treatment.
With the casualty in the care of the National Ambulance Service, Drogheda Coast Guard crews were stood down and returned to their station.
The incident highlights the importance of members of the public contacting the emergency services without delay when they witness someone in difficulty on or near the water.
The prompt 999/112 call ensured that the National Maritime Operations Centre could alert and mobilise the appropriate emergency resources, bringing together Coast Guard volunteers and ambulance personnel in a coordinated response.
Drogheda Coast Guard commends the member of the public who raised the alarm, along with all emergency personnel involved in the response.
Remember: If you see someone in difficulty on or near the water, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
