Four people were safely rescued on Monday evening after becoming stranded on a sandbank in Baldoyle Estuary when the incoming tide cut off their route back to shore.

The incident prompted a response from Howth Coast Guard Unit, while the Howth RNLI inshore lifeboat was tasked to recover the casualties. The lifeboat successfully brought the group ashore at Sutton, where they were met by a member of Howth Coast Guard.

All four people were safely returned to land, and no injuries were reported.

Following the incident, Howth Coast Guard is reminding members of the public to remain aware of rapidly changing tidal conditions, particularly as warm weather continues to attract more visitors to beaches, estuaries and sandbanks.

The unit advises anyone planning to explore coastal areas to check local tide times before setting out and to ensure there is always a safe route back to shore before the tide turns.

Anyone who sees a person in difficulty on or near the coast should immediately dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Irish Coast Guard.
