Howth RNLI assists in cliff fall rescue at Howth Head

Howth RNLI was involved in a multi-agency rescue yesterday evening (Wednesday 3 September) after a person fell from cliffs at Whitewater Brook near the Baily Lighthouse.
The station’s all-weather lifeboat was on routine exercise when the crew were requested by the Irish Coast Guard at 7.30pm to divert to the scene. Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 116, Dublin Fire Brigade, and the local Howth Coast Guard unit were also tasked.
A winchman, who is an advanced paramedic, was deployed from the helicopter to the casualty to provide immediate care. Due to the injuries sustained, additional medical support was requested. Onboard the lifeboat was a volunteer crew member who is a medical doctor, and he went ashore with two other crew in the lifeboat's small inflatable boat to assist the paramedic at the base of the cliff.
The casualty received emergency medical treatment before being winched into the helicopter for immediate transfer to hospital.
Speaking after the call out, Stephen Harris, Howth RNLI Launch Authority said: ‘This was a complex rescue which required close coordination between multiple agencies. We would like to commend our own volunteers, as well as the Coast Guard, helicopter crew and Dublin Fire Brigade, for their swift response. We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.’
