Killaloe Coast Guard unit assist four people in damaged powerboat

In their second callout in 24 hours, Killaloe Coast Guard unit came to the aid of four people after their powerboat got damaged 1km south of Killaloe Bridge towards Parteen Weir.

Valentia Coast Guard alerted the Killaloe Coast Guard unit at 1:35pm today (Thursday 21 August) requesting the crew to attend a19 foot powerboat with with two adults and two children onboard needing assistance 1km south of Killaloe Bridge towards Parteen Weir.


The powerboat lost engine power after hitting rocks causing damage to the drive. They contacted Valentia Coast Guard and requested assistance as they were drifting into shallow water.


A Coast Guard boat crew launched from the Pier Head Killaloe and made their way towards Patreen Weir, they located the vessel south of Clarisford on the Clare shore.


All onboard the powerboat were found safe and well and wearing life jackets.


After assessing the situation, the vessel was taken on tow back to Killaloe where a Coast Guard shore team were on hand to assist in the safe mooring of the vessel.


At 2:30pm crew members returned to base and stood down.
