Red Bay RNLI launches to assist yacht taking on water off Cushendall

Red Bay RNLI's volunteer lifeboat crews launched both lifeboats on Thursday, 30 July, after a yacht with two people on board reported taking on water approximately eight miles east of Cushendall.
The alarm was raised at 12:01pm, with Belfast Coastguard requesting the launch of both Red Bay lifeboats to assist the 10-metre yacht, which was on passage from Scotland.
On arrival at the scene, the volunteer crews assessed the situation and worked with those on board to stop the water ingress. Once the vessel was made safe, the lifeboats escorted the yacht to Glenarm Marina.
The lifeboats returned to station at 4:00pm after ensuring the vessel and everyone on board had reached safety.
The RNLI reminds anyone heading to sea to ensure their vessel is well maintained, carry the appropriate safety equipment, always wear a lifejacket, and carry a means of calling for help. In an emergency at sea, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
