On Saturday afternoon, November 29th, at 2:40 PM, the Sligo Bay Lifeboat was called into action by the Coast Guard. The call came after a concerned member of the public reported a wing foiler who appeared to be in difficulty off the first beach in Rosses Point.

Demonstrating their commitment and readiness, the volunteer crew quickly mobilized. Despite many crew members being occupied with preparations for the Christmas Light switch-on event in the village later that evening, they promptly responded to the call.
Upon arrival at the scene, the lifeboat crew engaged with the foil boarder. Fortunately, they were able to confirm that the individual was not in distress and that everything was under control. This incident was classified as a false alarm, albeit one made with good intent, highlighting the importance of public vigilance and concern for safety.
After confirming the safety of the situation, the lifeboat returned to its station. The crew ensured the vessel was thoroughly washed down and made ready for any future callouts.
Speaking after his first call-out as helm, Ross Palmer said 'Thankfully everything was fine and we will appreciate that a member of the public made the call as we always prefer a good intent call as opposed to a late call'.
