At 5:45pm on Sunday 31 August, Bantry Inshore Search and Rescue Association CRBI unit was called out by Valentia Coast Guard to assist a swimmer in distress on a rock at Shanvallybeg Beach (known locally as “Bolt’s Beach”).

The Lifeboat launched through extremely squally conditions and poor visibility and was on scene approximately 10 minutes later.

Two of the lifeboat crew deployed to the rock and assisted the casualty to the shore where the casualty was handed over to National Ambulance Service paramedics.

Winds were force 5-6 out of the Southwest, small-craft warning conditions. The casualty had been on the rock for approximately 30 minutes.

Remember: If you're in difficulty on or near the water—or if you see someone in trouble—dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
