At 5:13pm on Monday 2 March, Crosshaven RNLI were tasked by the Irish Coast Guard to a report of a possible body sighted in the water near Fountainstown.

Crosshaven RNLI volunteers launched their inshore lifeboat at 5:25pm and made their way to Fountainstown in good conditions and immediately commenced an area search in conjunction with Crosshaven Coast Guard who were in contact with the initial informant at the beach.
After a thorough search with nothing found, the lifeboat crew were stood down to return to station. The call was deemed a false alarm, but with good intent.
The lifeboat was recovered, washed down, refuelled and declared ready for service once more at 7pm
Remember if you see someone in difficulty please call 112/999 and ask for Coast Guard.
