At 6:31 pm on Thursday 18 December, Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were tasked by the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre following a report from An Garda SÃochána about a person in distress in the water near De Lacy Bridge.

Upon receiving the report, the Drogheda Coast Guard wasted no time in launching their rescue boat. With a skilled crew on board, they made their way at best speed to the location.
Upon arrival, the team discovered a person desperately clinging to a life ring, a crucial piece of equipment that undoubtedly played a significant role in the individual's survival.
The crew efficiently and safely recovered the individual from the water and transported them back to the Coast Guard station. There, a land crew was already on standby, prepared to assist further. Shortly after the successful rescue and initial treatment, the National Ambulance Service arrived on the scene. The casualty was then transported to the hospital for further treatment and observation.
The successful outcome of this operation highlighted the seamless coordination and collaboration between multiple agencies, including the Drogheda Coast Guard, An Garda SÃochána, and the National Ambulance Service.
