The alarm was raised at approximately 3.45pm when those on board the 11-metre vessel contacted the Coast Guard to report a fire. The boat was located around 1.5 miles (2.4km) northeast of the harbour, with thick black smoke visible from several points along the coastline.

The Marine Rescue Coordination Centre Dublin quickly coordinated a response, tasking Dún Laoghaire RNLI to launch. The inshore lifeboat was deployed and reached the scene within minutes, arriving at approximately 3.56pm.

All four adults on board were safely evacuated from the burning vessel and brought ashore to the RNLI station, where they were assessed by personnel from the Health Service Executive and fire services. No serious injuries have been reported.

The incident prompted a significant multi-agency operation involving Dún Laoghaire Coast Guard Unit, Dún Laoghaire RNLI, Dublin Fire Brigade, Dublin Port Company, the National Ambulance Service, and An Garda Síochána.

By around 5.15pm, the fire had been extinguished, but the vessel subsequently sank. The RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat and a Dublin Port tug remained in the area to monitor the situation.
