FENIT, Co Kerry - Fenit RNLI volunteer crews were tasked on the evening of Bank Holiday Monday, 25 May, following reports of a missing boy near Camp Beach.

The alarm was raised at 6:22pm, with calm sea and weather conditions reported at the time. Winds were south-westerly at Force 2–3, with a swell of approximately 0.5 metres.
Under the authority of Launch Authority Fergus Kelliher, both Fenit RNLI's All-Weather Lifeboat (ALB) and Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) were launched at 6:33pm. Coxswain Kevin Moriarty commanded the All-Weather Lifeboat, while Coxswain Terry Sheehy was in charge of the Inshore Lifeboat during the search operation.
Both lifeboats arrived on scene at Camp Beach at 6:48pm and immediately commenced a parallel shoreline search. The Coast Guard's Rescue 115 helicopter arrived shortly afterwards to support the operation from the air.
The search concluded successfully at 7:26pm when the missing boy was located safe and well on shore. Following confirmation of his safety, all responding units were stood down.
The lifeboats subsequently returned to Fenit Lifeboat Station, where crews refuelled and washed down both vessels before returning them to operational readiness by 8:18pm.
Following the callout, Coxswain Kevin Moriarty commended the professionalism and teamwork displayed by the volunteer crews.
He said he was "very proud of the volunteer crew" and highlighted the importance of regular training, which enabled the search to be conducted efficiently and safely.
Fenit RNLI also expressed its gratitude to the Coast Guard, Rescue 115 and all emergency services involved in the operation for their professionalism, dedication and swift response, which contributed to the safe outcome.
The All-Weather Lifeboat crew involved in the callout were Coxswain Kevin Moriarty, John Moriarty, Kevin Honeyman, Denise Lynch, Caroline Corkery and Mark O'Connor.
The Inshore Lifeboat crew were Coxswain Terry Sheehy, Ciaran Forde and Cian Lawless.
The RNLI reminds members of the public that if they see someone in difficulty at sea or along the coast, they should call 999 or 112 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard.
