Fenit RNLI volunteers were tasked on Sunday afternoon (19 April) to assist two people who had become stranded on a rock off the coast of County Clare.

The alarm was raised shortly after 4pm when the Irish Coast Guard reported that two individuals were cut off by a rising tide at Ross Point, north of Loop Head. At 4.08pm, the crew at Fenit RNLI launched their all-weather lifeboat under the command of Coxswain Denise Lynch, with four crew members onboard.
Conditions at sea were relatively calm, with warm weather, light easterly winds, and good visibility. The lifeboat made its way toward the scene, located approximately 22 nautical miles from Fenit station. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard also dispatched Rescue 115 to assist.
As the lifeboat approached the area, an update confirmed that the helicopter crew had successfully located and recovered the two casualties. Both individuals were reported safe and well, and the Fenit RNLI crew were subsequently stood down.
Speaking after the callout, Launch Authority Alan Browne praised the rapid response of the volunteer crew and the coordinated effort between emergency services. He also issued a reminder to the public about the risks associated with coastal activities.
He urged anyone heading to sea to check weather forecasts and tide times in advance, inform someone of their plans, and to call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard in case of emergency.
